About two years ago, I purchased this product for use with my home computer. As a young girl, I obviously didn't have much money so when I found this I was ecstatic. Such a great deal for $60, it seemed! CG Illust Version 2 offers the budding anime and manga artist to easily adapt to computer graphics. Compared to Photoshop, there is hardly any learning curve and it's extremely cheap. Despite this, options for CGI v.2 are VERY limited. There are only a few brushes and filters, and it is hard to adjust the brushes you have. The watercolor option looks nothing like an actual stroke, the gradient option is pretty useless (as there is no smooth transition), and no screentones are available. In short, the tools make it hard to create professional images. I would only suggest this if you have no experience in CGing and would like to start small before emptying your wallet. Eventually, as an artist you will probably outgrow this program, and using this it will help in the transition to a more professional and sophisticated program like Photoshop or Corel Painter.

Excellent for beginners. I created many pictures that I was very happy with. The more I used it the fastest and better each picture was.Having the ability to see how professional work was done is awesome. Watching your own work is fun too.

The baseline requirements to use CG Illust are very low, so nearly any computer can run the program well. All versions of Windows, from 95 to XP are supported.

TRUE STEP-BY-STEP LIVE DEMONSTRATION
One of the best features of this CD-ROM is the 50 example images included (we counted only 47 images), using CG Illust's animated "Event" viewer that shows how top artists created the illustrations -- from the very first sketch line to the final brushstroke. Open one of the images included in the DATA folder and you are treated to one of two types of virtual demonstrations: illustrations created from scratch, right in CG Illust, and those where traditionally created sketches are scanned into CG Illust and then finished in the program.

With the types of demonstrations that are created 100% in CG Illust, you can witness the first brushstroke of the rough illustration, then just sit back and watch as this rough sketch is refined stroke-by-stroke into a polished, high-quality, full color CG illustration. Every single step is shown, including mistakes and corrections!

No instructions are given during the demonstrations, but you can view each step in the process. Please note that the artists used a graphics tablet (not included) to sketch and paint, as a mouse does offer type of control needed for sketching. CG Illust gives you the ability to save only in JPG, BMP or a proprietary CG Illust .OCI format that preserves editable multiple layer images. Maximum supported editing resolution is 600 dpi.
