October 12 through November 6, 2001
On November 7 Bandai released
Pilot Candidate on DVD, the much anticipated anime series based on Yukiru Sugisaki's popular manga. Therefore Akadot, in conjunction with OmochaBox and Bandai Entertainment, hosts a
Pilot Candidate contest in which you can apply for GOA's Pilot Candidate Training Academy. Up to thirty people won a
Pilot Candidate DVD by simply exercising their imaginations.

August 13 through August 31, 2001
In conjunction with
Manga
Entertainment's release of "Blood: The Last Vampire," Akadot launched its
"Blood" contest (hosted on OmochaBox). The contest prize was a "Blood" artbook
straight from Japan signed by the legendary Mamoru Oshii, "Blood" director Hiroyuki
Kitakubo, and "Blood" animation director Kazuchika Kise. Congratulations to
Chris Summers who won the "Blood" artbook as well as a DVD of the film.
Congratulations also to Justine Lai and Chen-Chen Shih, who both won a DVD
copy of "Blood."

August 20, 2001
With some extra DVDs on hand, Akadot editor devised a puzzling contest that stumped
many of the Akadot staff. This challenge tested readers' anime title knowledge and honed
in on their word-puzzle solving abilities. The prize was a Hand Maid May Volume 1 DVD, courtesy
of
Pioneer Entertainment, and was
awarded to the first 6 readers who answered five of the scrabble slash crossword puzzle
questions correctly.
July 4 through July 31, 2001
Akadot and OmochaBox, in conjunction with Broccoli Co. Ltd., held the "Di Gi Charat"
Fan Art contest asking artists to render any character from "DiGi Charat" to compete for a
"DiGi Charat Chocola 2000" art book signed by "Di Gi Charat" character designer and famed doujinshi
artist Koge-Donbo. A runner up in each of three age groups received a "Di Gi Charat" illustration signed by
Koge Donbo. Akadot and OmochaBox posted the top five entries from each age group in the first week of August
for a public vote. The winning entries are

June 15 through June 29, 2001
A blast from the past hits streets on June 19 when ADV begins re-releasing the "Robotech" saga on DVD. And to
celebrate this traipse down memory lane, Akadot launches its "Robotech" contest. In 25 words or less, tell Akadot,
"How did 'Robotech' change my life." Winners receive DVDs signed by "Robotech" Producer, Carl Macek.

May 30 through June 1 2001
Production I.G's "Jin-Roh" premiered May 25th in Long Beach, California as part of Cal State
University's 2nd Annual Japanese Animation Festival. This ominous tale about police corruption
and the power of the secret police in an alternate history has attained acclaim in Japan despite
a tumultuous struggle to even get released. To celebrate its US premiere, Akadot is running a
"Jin-Roh" contest, for which two lucky winners will each receive a "Jin-Roh" art book from Japan
signed by its Production I.G creative team, director Hiroyuki Okiura, character designer Tetsuya
Nishio, and author Mamoru Oshii, the genius behind such seminal works as "Ghost in the Shell,"
"Patlabor" and the upcoming live action film "Avalon."
People who entered had to show off their knowledge by answering several trivia questions
about Production I.G. correctly.
April 16 through April 20, 2001
Our first of three "Cowboy Bebop" contests asked readers to answer several multiple-choice questions. Up for grabs
was a Cowboy Bebop Session 6th DVD (featuring the final four episodes, the conclusion to the epic); courtesy
of
Bandai Entertainment and signed by the American voice cast, director and writer.
April 23 through April 27, 2001
The prize for the second Cowboy Bebop contest was a Cowboy Bebop soundtrack (CD format; courtesy of
OmochaBox) signed by composer Yoko Kanno,
whose first major appearance in the United States was two years ago at Anime Expo. It was another multiple-choice
questionnaire, once again testing out readers' knowledge.
April 30 through May 4, 2001
The last of our series of Cowboy Bebop questionnaires. The prize for this final contest was a Cowboy Bebop Artbook
(also courtesy of
OmochaBox) signed by Bebop's character designer
Toshihiro Kawamoto, director Shinichiro Watanabe and screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto.

A simple contest for one of Akadot's first contests. All you
had to do was dress as one of the characters from any of the many Studio Pierrot anime series, and send us a
picture through snail mail or email it to us. Prizes included goods from Studio Pierrot's popular anime series, like
Gensomaden Saiyuki, Fushigi Yuugi, Yu Yu Hakusho, and many more!
