Overall: 2.1
Painful to watch, and perhaps permanently scarring. Director Takashi Watanabe fails to shape anything distinguishing out of this vapid dud.
Story/Character Development: 1.4
A thick soup of gray - story and character remain flavorless throughout this series.
Art/Animation: 4.0
Inconsistent and predominantly bad, the bland art direction and static animation are rife with anime conventions such as the nervous droplet around characters' temples and frenetic limb movements to indicate frustration.
Translation/Acting: 3.0
Aside from practically incoherent writing, ill-timed subtitles (that are even more badly written) confuse the story. And if the dub were any worse, it'd be an episode of "Jerry Springer."
Format: 5.0
Standard language inclusions, Japanese and English each available with English subtitles. The DVD also offers trailers for other ADV titles and the show's DVD credits.
MPAA Equivalent: PG
Only because a parent should certainly gauge how much brain damage this tripe can do to a developing child.
X-Factors
Psy-Blade Factor: 3.14128571...
Kain carries one, a weapon that feeds off the mental energies of its wielder. However, given Kain's ... well, stupidity, it's surprising that he has enough mental residue to even spark up the blade.
Ten Things I Hate About You Factor: 10
As sensitive as a genital rash, this cast tears into one another with verbal abuse at the drop of a hat.
