Overall: 6.5
A dream/nightmare world saturated with dark, delicate imagery. Unfortunately, the screenwriters let the artists
do most of the work.
Story/Character Development: 4.3
Good vs. Evil. Atypically, Good is actually the more interesting of the two in this case, but no individual
character lives up to the initial intrigue. All the characters are lost souls - an intentional motif, perhaps -- but
the writers don't appear to have found them, preventing the audience from doing so as well.
Art/Animation: 9.5
Based on Saki Okuse's graphic novel, the film's style is reminiscent of other graphic novels, horror flicks
and fetish clubs. The result is at once disturbing, beautiful and erotic.
Translation/Acting: 6.0
Andy Philpot portrays Shijo to great effect- a mix of calm determination and troubled past. And as far as the
script goes, the lines flow smoothly, even if what the characters have to say isn't always particularly interesting.
MPAA Equivalent: R
Anytime you mix partial nudity with blood and leather, it's a fight just to avoid an NC-17.
X-Factors
Fetish Factor: 9.0
Whether it's the aforementioned blood and leather you crave, or you like being licked by twins, or you find
those demon horns more than a little suggestive, the "Master" has it all.
