Overall: 8.5
Great fights and lots of them.
Story: 7.0
A shaky beginning hampers the story: the first two episodes score a 5 and the last four along the lines of an 8.5.
Genuine intrigue elements in the story imply further episodes scoring 8.0s and above.
Character Development: 6.5
The "good guys" come complete with witty banter and cool fight lines, although shallow at first they develop into a
team worth rooting for.
Art/Animation: 9.5
Excellent backgrounds, great facial expressions, detailed fight scenes, stylized still shots and nasty characters
drawn with even more attention to detail than the protagonists.
Translation: 9.5
Manga Entertainment usually does an excellent translation job and this series is no exception. Up to date lingo and re-worked
titles rescue the language of the series from the pit of translation loss: the original translated name of the Devil's
Battle Cave was the far less impressive "evil cave;" and "Episode 2: King of the Air Force" originally came in as "Mr.
Air Force Exploding: Incredible Military Combat."
Acting: 8.0
Believable characters. Neither Ken nor Ryu sound awkward when they say, "dude," an impossible feat in the
world of voice dubbing.
MPAA Equivalent: PG
Blood but no gore. And brief snippets of bare posteriors hardly make this a worry for parents who simply want
to present their kids with some good, wholesome, bare-knuckled street fighting.
Format: 5.0
Easy navigation over an evocative street scene design. But very little of note. Manga Ent. previews and a catalogue of
their most famous titles; "Street Fighter II V" trailer; weblinks to Manga Ent. related sites. The DVD also features a remix
of the theme song, a deceptively good addition to the package.
X-Factors
Ass-kicking Factor: 9.5
Who can resist two guys who wipe the floor with pretty much everyone they meet?
Ass-flashing factor: 9.0
Who can resist a guy who'll strip butt naked and dive into a pool while there's someone in it and not be embarrassed
about what his body parts look like on the way down?
Mohawk Effect: 10
Anyone with a mohawk must be evil, right? Someone must have had a bad experience with punk rock when they were little.
