Overall: 2.5
Boring is the word to describe this sci-fi series. "RG Veda" has none of it, comedy, romance, drama, danger.
Story: 2.5
There's a clear story arc. Six special people have to unite to overthrow an evil tyrant in charge of heaven.
But, like an original NES video game, the only hiccups along the way are external, leaving the building of suspense,
character and interest to carrion.
Character Development: 3.0
An attempt at back story gives Yasha and Ashura a little depth. However, all the other characters could
have been as easily pulled from a catalog.
Art/Animation: 4.0
An overuse of speed lines and the quick animation of each character's special power is reminiscent, again,
of an NES video game. Unfortunately, this is "RG Veda's" strongest aspect.
Translation: 4.0
There must be something lost in the translation. Either that or the prophecy that roots "RG Veda's" plot is unbelievably vague.
Acting: 3.0
The low rating is not totally the actors' fault, since they have to play to such overused characters. Hans Brikfeice's
surfer/valley dude voice for Kujaku goes laughably beyond the bounds of appropriateness.
MPAA Equivalent: PG
No sex and little violence, but an infanticide scene pushes "Veda" to PG.
X-Factors
This is a Most Excellent Adventure Factor: 6.0
Bill and Ted could take notes from Kujaku. He's got valley speak down pat, and luckily for us he's some sort of narrator/observer for the story.
Killer Butterflies Factor: 10
I always knew the deceptively hued insects were as lethal as swarms of locusts.
