Overall: 4.4
This series is very action-oriented, concentrating so heavily on the fight scenes that the narrative gets tedious.

Story: 4.7
The complex plot suffocates itself with twists, turns and a crowded array of characters.

Character Development: 3.9
Heero and Relena's fickle nonsense reminds us that the series is really about giant robots fighting.

Art/Animation: 5.0
Director Ikeda occasionally selects unique, poetic close-ups. The characters have attractive costumes and hairstyles, but the design of the mobile suits is fairly conventional. The artists don't "think outside the mobile suit" enough to take full advantage of the futuristic fantasy setting.

Translation: 6.2
The timing of the dub is right-on, but the translation sometimes comes up short. Imagine "Oops! I did it again!" translated as "I have accidentally repeated a prior action."

Acting: 5.0
Completely average and completely forgettable.

MPAA Equivalent: PG
The series centers on fighting, but there's very little bloodshed.

X-Factors

Mecha-for-Mecha Factor Factor: 9.4
Those darned mobile suits are always battling it out!

Teen-Angst Factor Factor: 6.4
The time the characters spend brooding in each episode roughly equals an average episode of "Dawson's Creek." But while trying to find dates for the dance, these kids have the added responsibility of overthrowing a powerful world government.
