Even at two hours and twenty minutes, this film feels rushed, as if it was meant to be a television series. And though themes of the environment and preserving resources creep into the premise, the story is very much about clichéd romances and rebellion.

An immediately engaging gunfight and explosion in the first fifteen minutes preambles distracting jibber-jabber inserted between battle sequences for the rest of the title.

Some sequences are simply stunning, such as Ran trapped in the desert, desperately attempting to fix his hovercraft as it sinks into the sand. The dream sequences dazzle as well. However, the techniques themselves aren't very inventive, as if the creator's attempt science fiction conventions but fail to integrate them into the overall design of this film.

As with much dubbed anime, "Ran's" voice actors waver from their characters' motivations, or never bother try to understand their characters at all. Most of the actors tailor their voice to fit the type of character rather than the personality of the character. The translation itself roles along adequately enough.

Plenty of explosions and gunfire but no blood.

Kiba, Hazzard's leader, speaks with a grating, Bond-villain English accent which, although the character disappoints, makes every word that oozes from his surly lips hint at a diabolical plan in the making.
