Overall: 3.0
Weird movie about a dog beating 5th grader who learns the value of a pet.
Not worth the time, effort, or queasy feelings induced by watching this film.
Story: 2.0
Talking cats help rescue a non-talking dog, mixed in with a couple of kids that shouldn't be allowed to talk at all.
Character Development: 4.0
Toriyasu learns a lesson about friendship and proper pet ownership. However,
he's still just as much of a spaz at the end of the movie as when it begins.
Art/Animation: 4.0
The first three minutes of animation tantalize and excite the senses. Too bad that these only
represent the opening credits leaving the rest of the movie looking like a bad episode of Animaniacs.
Translation: 5.0
All cats and kids speak idomatically correct English and Japanese. The UFO and alien dialogue sounds
like something straight out of A Current Affair.
Acting: 2.0
Meeka is annoying, Toriyasu is a brat, and the cats all speak like T.S. Eliot, but with less wit.
Format Interface: 2.0
"Catnapped!" comes on a nifty DVD, but this doesn't make it a better film.
MPAA Equivalent: PG
Parental guidance is recommended for the parents of stupid children who might be inspired to go pummel
their pets when they get made fun of in school. Besides that, not much violence in the land of Banipal Witt.
X-Factors
The "Ah, man, I paid 20 bucks for that stuff" Factor: 10.0
As trippy and surreal as this title might sound, only a fool would waste any money or resources
imbibing hallucinatory drugs to make this movie more enjoyable. "Catnapped!" isn't freaky enough to give even
the deadest Deadhead a flashback or melting visuals. Maybe catnip would work better.
