Overall: 7.0
Vehemently criticized for not being "Card Captor Sakura," this amalgamated series offers an abbreviated
version of the original, not as bad as "they" say it is, but not as good as "it" says it is.
Story: 6.0
Nelvana hacks and pares all the Japanese cultural references, 'boring' parts, and various other sections of
the storyline; and thus hacks and pares this rating down to a six. Bereft of a proper beginning the series flounders
across the terrain of the original without capturing the charm.
Character Development: 7.0
Li and Sakura's characters both show growth as they learn to respect one another. Their competitiveness is
one of the draws of this series.
Art/Animation: 9.5
Each episode provides an effulgent feast for the eyes rife with interesting details. But, again, the excision
of Japanese cultural references dampens the piece's charm.
Acting: 4.5
With the exception of Li and Sakura's family, the voice acting quality is quite poor. An experienced cast
would go a long way towards improving this series.
MPAA Equivalent: PG
Though tame, the violence is still there. And "The Cave" can ignite some base fears in small children.
X-Factors
The Amazing, Astounding, (Untested) Battle Outfits Factor: 9.0
Rubberized cloth to protect against lightning, an outfit that's perfect for night flight, Madison is always
there with the clothes. Too bad Sakura never gets a chance to try these amazing abilities - she never seems to
need what they have to offer. But it's all about looking good, right?
Speaking Loudly to a Foreigner Factor: 1.0
Nelvana's approaches this series as if an American audience couldn't get it, behavior akin to speaking
loudly to a non-English speaking as if the sheer volume will make the words easier to understand.
