Overall: 7.5
A fun but not necessarily lighthearted look at an aging rocker - and the space war in which he finds himself. This installment focuses more on relationships than inter-stellar battle.
Story: 7.0
Story isn't exactly the strong point of "Black Heaven," but things do move along.
Character Development: 8.5
Oji and those in his immediate circle are well rendered with meaningful, mature problems, making them interesting to watch.
Art/Animation: 6.0
The animation continues to be fairly low budget, occasionally dropping down into the sub par category. And, for some reason, the subtitling is hard to read in many scenes.
Translation: 7.5
Dialog is natural sounding and accurate, but the hard-to-read subtitles bring the rating down a notch.
Acting: 8.5
The American actors are well above par while the Japanese actors are excellent.
Format: 5.0
This DVD isn't all wine and roses. Weighing in at only three episodes as opposed to the four you got in the first DVD, you hardly have time to settle into things before it's all over.
MPAA Equivalent: PG
Mild violence.
X-Factors
Tastes Great, Less Filling Factor: 6.5
Less isn't more. The first four episodes were better than the three we get here, and hearing the same recycled song every episode is getting old.
Family Values Factor: 9.0
Under the surface sound and fury lurks the heart of a more serious beast, one which urges us to consider whether we are living up to our own ideals and dreams, and to take what we have before it slips away.
