Wendee Lee's effervescence is matched only by her ubiquity in the field of anime dubs, having been part of such seminal
projects as "Robotech," "Vampire Hunter D" and "Ninja Scroll" and more recent sensations such as "Cowboy Bebop," in which she
voiced the sultry Faye Valentine. Akadot caught up with her in California's San Fernando Valley to ask her some random
questions about what stinks.
How do you drive?
WL: On the right side of the road ... anywhere and everywhere - constantly. Actor's spend most of their lives behind the wheel racing to work.
Mulder or Scully?
WL: ???
What is the most rewarding project you've ever been a part of?
WL: Ooo! This is a two-parter for me:
The time I spent as Artist-in-Residence for DANCE OUTREACH working with visually & hearing impaired, autistic and mentally
retarded kids, getting them out of wheelchairs and walkers and teaching them to dance and connect with music.
Second would have to be staging, directing, choreographing, writing and adapting a musical production of "Mary Poppins"
for stage. I never worked so hard in my life.
Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm sixty-four?
WL: Absolutely! Who could ask for more?
From which board game do you always emerge victorious?
WL: Pictionary, baby!
What pet would be most compatible with your personality, the penguin from "Evangelion," Ein
from "Cowboy Bebop" or the panda from "Ranma 1/2?"
WL: Ein and Faye do not mix. I'd be more inclined to go for the white lion from my old Streamline version of "Nadia."
Are anime guys better looking than real guys?
WL: Anime guys give good hair. Gotta love cool guys with great hair. Let's face it, everyone's better looking in anime.
Who would play you in the film of your life story?
WL: Umi from "Magic Knight Rayearth" or someone like Fiona Apple, providing she can act and dance - God knows she can do everything else!
Who is your favorite painter?
WL: Leonardo da Vinci. He's also one of my favorite inventors - Totally ahead of his time.
Ms. Lee will be making her first anime convention appearance at Anime Central this May.
