The Wind and Ms. Willow

Willow Johnson voices Kasumi - the spacey, maternal sister from "Ranma 1/2." Akadot catches up with her immediately after her first convention panel appearance to glimpse the sentimental person behind the flighty persona.

What's the first song lyric that pops into your head?

WJ: "Yesterday, all my troubles seem so far away."

What is your worst fear?

WJ: My worst fear. Well, one of them was sitting in front of that audience there doing that panel thing, but it wasn't as bad as I thought.

What's the best cure for the hiccups?

WJ: Best cure for the hiccups? Um...holding your breath.

What book made you cry?

WJ: "Jane Eyre." I love that book, I've probably read it about five times.

Do you have premonitions for dreams? Do your dreams come true?

WJ: You know what, I don't, but it still runs in my family. My mom actually is psychic and she's got lots of great stories. I, myself, don't. One really wacky one is when she was a kid, she dreamed about a neighbor of hers being out in the middle of the ocean in the middle of the night on his boat and drowning, and it actually was taking place at the exact same time.

Is there a feminist defense for the panty shots in anime?

WJ: You know what, I would really have to think about that one and that's a hard one because I know it's pretty insane. My gut reaction to that kind of stuff ... I've seen some pretty hardcore nasty anime. I don't like it so much myself.

What would change about the U.S. government if you could? Wait, are you Canadian?

WJ: Yeah.

What would you change about the Canadian government?

WJ: Oh, can I skip that one?

Did you ever have a crush on a television character growing up, and who was it?

WJ: Crush on a television character...I think my first crush was probably Michael J. Fox. He was such a babe when I was like eight, I was so into him when he was on "Family Ties."

Do you think globalization is a benefit or a deficit to world culture and humanity in general?

WJ: There's pros and cons. I think it's kind of cool just the way that modern technology allows society to become one little village. There's a lot of cool things about that. But at the same time the homogenization of cultures kinda sucks.

In addition to playing Kasumi Tendo in Viz's "Ranma 1/2," Willow Johnson lent her voice to animated projects such as "My Little Pony" and "Fatal Fury." The multi-talented Johnson has also appeared in a number of live-action projects as well, including television series such as "Highlander."
