In the midst of promoting her new album "No Limit" Mari Iijima, the Japanese voice of Lin Minmei in the original "Macross" series,
attended Ani Magic, a small convention in Lancaster, California. Alighting the stage after a poolside concert, Ms. Iijima took
some time to tell Akadot the fate of Mr. G.W. Bush.
What are your five top recording artists?
MI: Third Eye Blind, Kings X, Squeeze, Nine Days and N'Sync.
In one word, how would you describe your personality?
MI: Open.
If you could give out the Nobel Peace Prize, who would get it?
MI: President Carter.
If you could fly, what would be the first thing you'd do?
MI: Go to San Francisco. And then just peep in on the guy I like, into what he's doing.
What color would you dye your hair?
MI: Red. Not everything. Just maybe the under-layers. And then when the wind blows through
my hair, the red will show through.
What's your favorite black and white movie?
MI: Wow . . . "Rebecca."
What is pornography? Smut? Or expressionist?
MI: It depends how dirty it is. If it's a real porno that guys watch? That's smut. "Sex and the City." I like that one. If it's beautiful, it's okay. Like Showtime used to have a series called "Red Shoe Diary."
What's the weirdest thing you ever did to a family member or friend that you confessed to?
MI: Uh . . . I never did anything strange. I'm like a really good girl (laughs).
What's your favorite alcoholic drink?
MI: I'm not very good at alcohol. But my girlfriend ordered one thing and I kind of liked it so I always order that: Sex on the Beach.
Who's going to be the first against the wall when the Revolution comes?
MI: Somebody who wants to be a president now.
Given that Ms.Iijima is a staunch liberal, Akadot assumes that she means our current president-elect. As for Ms. Iijima's future, after being nominated for "Best Pop Artist" in the 2000 Los Angeles Music Awards, she's up for best new CD for "No Limit" in the The Kweevak.com 2000 Viewers' Choice Awards. Look for her to also appear on MTV's newest soap opera, "Spyder Games," early this year.
