Well, another year and another Yaoi-con have gone by, and the staff here at DMP/June were sad to leave yet another spectacular event. We think we had enough madness to last us the rest of the year, though. This year we invited the lovely Toko Kawai Sensei as our guest (author of Our Everlasting, Bondz, and Cut), and spent 3 crazy days and nights at the Westin/Clarion Hotels in San Fransisco!
DAY 1
Arrival
Kawai sensei had never been to any sort of anime convention in the States, and didn’t know what to expect from Yaoi-con (although the staff that survived last year’s con filled her in on some of the details!). There were already some folks in cosplay when we arrived at the hotel, but it wasn’t until that night’s opening ceremony that she *really* got a taste of the crazy excitement and energy that makes up this event.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony was, as usual, a jam packed event with participants ready to get the show started! Kawai Sensei attended in her kimono (she wears them regularly back home), and got up to wave to all her fans when she was introduced. An official start to YAOICON 2006!
Set-up
Overall, set up went very well for the Juné staff. Despite bringing way too much stuff for the fans, we were able to fit most of it in our booth and put the excess inventory in our little 10’ truck.
801 Launch Party
The room filled up pretty quickly for the launch of this hot new label! Thanks to all who showed up. Hope you enjoyed the treats :) 801 Media announced the license of Affair by Shiuko Kanno, and gave out 801 shot glasses to everyone. But all good things must come to an end... By midnight it was time to go, and some went home to rest for the big DAY 2, while others went off to continue the party elsewhere.
And that about does it for Day 1. Stay tuned for more about the craziness in the dealer's room, Kawai Sensei's autograph session, and the endlessly entertaining BISHOUNEN AUCTION!
