Story: "The normally quiet jungle is abuzz with excitement today, because it's time for the ceremony to choose the king of the jungle. Or at least it would be if King K. Rool hadn't stolen the special medallion meant for the winner. Donkey Kong and his friends must swing their way through the jungle to get the medallion back and, along the way, do battle with King K. Rool's minions."
To be honest, I just got a Nintendo DS because I like games where I can touch things (I'm a tactile person). I lean right when making a right turn playing mario kart. So when I was told to review the game, I was like, "Aww man, I really suck at these kind of games" - and you know, when you're not good at something, its just not very fun!
Anyway, so I get home and start the game, and have my friend, that is much better playing video games than I am, help me. It turns out the game controls are pretty tactile-friendly. The L and R buttons control Donkey Kong's left and right hands, which does take a bit getting use to, but after some practice its not that bad (my friend was pretty good at it). So now, on to the first stage!
I thought that the game would be more of a left to right adventure, but it turns out that its more of a bottom to top one. Donkey kong more or less climbs to the next stage. The first stage was easier than I thought it would be, probably so you get use to the controls still. You have to try to get the bananas along the way (because its your life source), and if you get enough you can press the A button and, "go bananas!" (It's basically like how mario gets a star and then is invincible and goes fast...but harder to control.) I kept accidently making him "go bananas" and lost a bunch of bananas (no pun intended) -_-. But eventually I passed the stage (it wasn't that long...I just kept falling down >_<)! When you complete a stage Donkey Kong beats his chest and makes funny noises (not to mention the clapping when you go back to the map!). =D
The beginning levels are pretty easy, but later in the game the enemies get harder to beat, and you really have to be good at swinging and letting go at the right time to hit them. Also, the game gets progressively harder - fast! Further stages include loose bolts to hang on, tornados that make it harder to control which way you want to go, under water stages - which make attacks go a shorter distance, and levers and other mechanisms that make let you create path - but it only lasts for a short amount of time!
When I first go the game I thought it would be easy because the beginning stages were a breeze - but it really provides a challenge! The storyline isn't that great, but its fun to play, and can get addicting. Also, when you've finished the game once you can play as different characters. If you like games that take skill and control to beat - this is the game for you!
