"Tiger Man Rabbit Man" has got to be Honma Akira's best BL work to date & kudos to June for doing an excellent job of translating & publishing it in English. The premise of the main story is about a timid doctor (Uzuki) who saved a wounded yakuza (Nonami) in an alley one night. Due to his blood loss, Nonami was too dazed to get a correct name & visual identification of the doctor. However, once he was well, he was determined to find his "nightingale" whom he was convinced was a woman working in Uzuki's hospital. Hilarity ensues as Nonami bribed the way for his underling & him to stake out the hospital to find his savior. I can't stop laughing either as Nonami find out he might have to accept the fact that his savior ("nightingale") turns out to be a man ("nightigay"). Honma Akira did an awesome job creating her characters here. All the yakuza characters in the book stays pretty true to what I would expect - their scheming & violent behavior, rough conversations etc... In contrast, Dr. Uzuki's hospital world is more refined. I find the main characters highly adorable as they try to grapple with this new emotions of newly found respect that might turn into love. Will Nonami finally accepts that love is sometimes blind to gender? Will Uzuki falls for Nonami despite his criminal past? And can their relationship stay safe in the unforgiving world of yakuza? The second story is excellent as well. Ms. Akira is actually quite fond of spinning BL stories of genius semes taking a good care of their ukes. This one is about a young prodigy (Kazushi) who purposely did badly in his school works so he can get tutored by his much older nerd of a neighbor(Nagatomo). 10 years had passed and Kazushi had returned from USA an accomplished young man with a an accelerated graduate degree and a plum job in an elite firm to claim more than that first stolen kiss from his childhood crush. I simply adore the contrast between the unflappable Kazushi & the older yet hapless Nagatomo! This book is a definite must buy & I would recommend this book to any BL fan. There is not much erotic action but this book is still highly entertaining. In fact, I would say it makes the list of my top five favorite shounen-ai works of all time. I can hardly wait for the subsequent volumes to come out so I can find out what happen to my favorite couples.
