English Language Version of Newtype Currently in Development Digital Manga Welcomes Voice of the Anime Community
LOS ANGELES, CA -- Digital Manga, Inc. is on course to publish the
English language version of Newtype. Newtype staff has set its
inaugural issue's street date for early Spring 2002.
This extended prep time will assure a high quality magazine packed with
features and accessories befitting the name Newtype - a big magazine
with vivid colors, full double page spreads that cover the spectrum of
anime.
The English language version of Newtype will be tailored to North
American and European audiences, focusing on shows that are popular
outside of Japan. But the magazine will also publish pieces on shows
just released in Japan, providing for a balanced look at the global
anime community.
The English Newtype staff is also extremely sensitive to the needs and
wants of the fan community and has set up a form on Akadot
(akadot.com) through which fans can express what they'd like to see
in the magazine. Visit the Akadot main page and click on the Nt
(Newtype) logo to chime in with your comments.
To make room for Newtype at Digital Manga, Akadot has scaled back its
posting schedule from about twelve pieces a week to four. Akadot will
continue to provide the fan community with in-depth coverage and
thoughtful commentary on the anime industry, but in a limited capacity.

Digital Manga and Akadot Move Ahead on English Language Version of Newtype
Digital Manga, Inc. and Kadokawa announced that Digital Manga, Inc. would publish an English language version of Newtype Magazine, the leading anime magazine in Japan.
Los Angeles, CA - At Anime Expo 2001 this past July, Digital Manga, Inc. and Kadokawa announced that Digital Manga, Inc. would publish an English language version of Newtype Magazine, the leading anime magazine in Japan.
Though details about the project are still being finalized, Digital Manga has just brought on Akadot editor Luis Reyes to be managing editor for the magazine. Reyes is now searching for an editor-in-chief for Newtype and assembling a production, distribution and sales staff. Akadot, Digital Manga's autonomous online anime news magazine, will continuing running as usual, but it will also have a small presence between the pages of the new English language Newtype.
"We're extremely excited about the project and are committed to maintaining the high standards for quality that makes the Japanese version so popular," says Reyes. "I believe it's something that the anime community really wants and we're assembling a staff that will live up to the high expectations."
DMI's plan currently includes retention of Newtype's trademark full-color spread features on the latest and hottest anime titles from Japan. In fact, most of the content for the English language version will be culled from the Japanese version. The English language version will also contain posters for various shows that may differ from the Japanese version, and it will include features that cover the anime scene in the United States and abroad. The English language version will also retain the size of the original magazine along with its high quality printing and durable pages.
Akadot will also play host to an online portal for Newtype, but specifics have yet to be worked out.
More details to come.
