The main story is about high school Math teacher Isa who prides himself on being prudent & level headed but finds his own composure slipping as he is constantly being pursued by his bold and audacious student Homura. Homura would shamelessly create any excuse to be alone with Isa so he can put the moves on his beloved sensei. Will Isa finally realizes Homura’s sincerity and return his love? I adore Yaya Sakuragi’s works – her carefully crafted conversations & situations usually contain liberal doses of humor and “Hey, Sensei!” is no exception. It is hilarious to read about how Isa couldn’t get it up for Homura’s older sister when they were dating in University but still not realize that he might be gay until Homura’s advances & confessions of love. I laugh at seeing how the manipulative Homura wears down Isa’s defenses. Later, after they have become lovers, Isa still treat Homura like the immature brat that he was despite the younger man being the seme. I also adore the second story included in this book about a delinquent boy who had become a ramen noodle shop worker who loves delivering noodles to his childhood crush who is now a cop. Dare he hopes that his love will be returned? For those yaoi fans looking for teacher – student story with an older seme & a younger uke, I would highly recommend “Hey, Sensei!” Sakuragi Yaya’s art is very distinctive – she draws her characters with such long, angular features that are surprisingly pleasing to the eyes as they do look manly. June did a good job of translating the conversations in the book which is the crux of Sakuragi’s humor and makes it such an enjoyable read.
